Have an 04/04 SL 350 and acquired a later unused (still boxed) pair of rear lens clusters complete with bulbs plugs and wiring (ones with the central horizontal clear stripe in them), which 04 doesn't have. I would like to swap, as fitment and shape appear identical, but new ones have three bulbs in them and existing ones appear to have only two (turn and reverse), as leds are used for stop and tail lights. However I believe there is a fog light bulb on the driver's side (making three bulbs) which I cannot see through the small inspection panels in the boot. So does the later car have two fog lights, one each side which would account for the three bulbs? Is it a big job to change the lenses and would the electrics marry up?

They are plug and play so to speak and all the same right up to this year.

I did mine last spring and the pics are here,, not that easy as you have to remove much of the rear boot trim, and on the near side its packed with electronic boxes, but as said it took me 2 hours to do it but then I have had these boots stripped out before

Nice plate :D

But how did it go from a '50' Soft Top to a '500SL AMG' Hard Top? .... or am I being just dumb??

Hi Jez Its always been a hard top 230 now for 2 years,,I had the 129 before that.

I bought the plate for £250 as my initials are MW and that reads into the plate as well. Though the car has an AMG body kit on it,,I have taken the badges off now, as its not right. :D:D

Hi Malcom,

Many thanks for advice. Great pics of your Merc. Just waiting for the wind and rain to stop here in Wales to get started (boot lid fouls the track mechanism to do it inside). Hope it only takes me two hours, but I doubt it!

Regards.

Denis.

If you get stuck removing all of the trim in the boot just ask
