Hi guys,

Have a favour to ask... Would anybody mind checking this part number for me?

A0044209120

Basically, I just bought new Rear Pads for my 1998 W202 C250 TD, and they don't fit. They seem to be too long, as in they fit in the calliper grooves but hit the rotor when the pin is pushed through.
Car cant move as wheels wont turn.

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm going to call the stealership in the morning but was hoping somebody might be able to shed some light beforehand.

Many thanks

It looks to be the right part, single pin retainer, replaces A002 420 74 20, perhaps a picture showing the faulty fit would help?

No probs, will get one tomorrow in the daylight. I'm thinking what may have happened is the previous owner has fitted the car with cheaper non-merc disks and pads. The pads I took out definitely were not official mercedes pads.

Oh yeah, when I took the old pads out I did compare size and they were about 5mm longer, as in from dowel pin hole to the front of the pad. This is what makes me think they are non Merc pads and rotors possibly. Any ideas how much a set of disks are from the dealers?

The rotors or disc have nothing to do with the brake pads

I know, but it seems that the disks are too wide for the pads, diameter wise, measuring across the section the wheel bolts to. Should the calipers have any movement in them? My previous cars were set up in such a way that the callipers could move slightly from side to side but these ones are solid.
Il get some photos tomorrow, I'm not very good at explaning things.

The disc cannot be wrong as they contain the parking brake shoes, so if that works the diameter is correct. Yes the calliper should be able to slide, it does to take up the wear

The pads listed are
6 A 001 420 95 20 BRAKE PAD
PARTS KIT WITH TWO RETAINING PINS
001
26 A 002 420 74 20 BRAKE PAD
PARTS KIT WITH ONE RETAINING PIN

Thanks for that Malcolm! Interestingly the part number for the pad set I got does not match up with those ones.
Mine are A0044209120, if I am reading your post right then I should have A0024207420?

Fingers crossed it is simply the wrong pads then! Must admit, my calipers look very bad, heavily corroded so will probably need changed. I don't think I have ever owned a car before that has needed so much work done to it!

Interesting that the caliper on my V70r are in much better shape than my SL500, they are ATE the same as yours but the pins all corroded in the SL where as on the V70R they are like new with double the SL mileage

Yup. I used to have a '95 Celica GT and it was the definition of reliability and rust-free motoring compared to this. Was pretty shocked by the state of the Merce undercarriage. Thinking I might sort these brakes and be done with it. I love the car, but I dont think I can afford to finish this project sadly.
Thanks guys :)

Its not as simple as that, the part A 0024207420 was replaced by A 0044209120 which is the pad you have

Yup, spoke to Mercedes earlier and they confirmed they are the right pads. Almost home now so will jack the car up and get you some photos. Gonna stick the old pads back in for now, one day of public transport is quite enough!

Ok, problem solved. When i got home i went to work on the car and noticed that the part number on the box did not match that on the receipt. Was very similar though so guess its an easy mistake to make.
Il go and get the correct ones tomorrow. Thanks again for all your help guys :)
