CL 500 2005 5 litre
Hi there.

This my first post on this forum.

I need some advice urgently!

My CL 500 2005 has misting on both rear suspension shocks and it seems that there is an issue finding replacement parts.

The part numbers are 220 320 9113 (left side) and 220 320 9213 (right side).

I’d like some advice about where to find replacement parts and what I should go for.

Mercedes appear to not be showing any right hand side availability and limited left hand side units.

Are there any rebuilt parts out there or alternative new options That anyone can recommend?

My car has only done 54,000 miles and I’d like to find either reconditioned options if they would do the job, new after market alternatives or any thoughts about taking the breakers options which would presumably be OE parts but with no real warranty.

I want to do the right thing for the car as there must be many owners facing this same problem.

Many thanks for any suggestions.

I think the OP has a C215 from the 220 prefix part numbers, if MB don’t have availability, I would look here https://www.abcspecialist.nl/en/brands/mercedes-benz/?mode=grid
Thank you so much for your response and the link.
It looks like they may have both left and right struts available.
I’m assuming these are remanufactured original MB parts.
I can’t really work out how they are priced because I don’t understand if there will be VAT and delivery added as well as needing to send my old ones back to them!?
Are these generally considered to be the best option rather than risking new alternatives that seem to be coming out of China?
I’ve never needed to buy parts from abroad before.
Could I also ask what would be the best way to find someone to do the work?
I’m based in Peterborough UK.

Many thanks again,

Howard May

I bought from this company, offside front strut for SL, was leaking a bit. My only advice would be wrap tape over the jubille clip holding dust covers.
mine popped off after three years. strut was fine. Strut has been fitted 6 years. No problems with strut. Fun getting dust covers back secured.

Hi Malcolm,

Thank you for your comments and suggestions.

I feel that I’d like to buy from these guys so I just need to work out how much it will all cost Including any taxes and carriage costs!

They talk about getting the flush through kit which looks like lots of fluid and a filter.

In your opinion would you agree that I need to have that done too?

Kindest regards,

Howard May.

Hi

I think a flush would be a good idea, if its never been done. Although its a closed system, bits of degraded seals etc can cause havoc with valve blocks etc.

I may be wrong, but I think they updater the filters to reduce the particle size that could pass through. You can purchase what you need over here in the UK easy enough.

I flush the system every 10k , fasten clear long tube with made pipe adapter which flows into a bucket from the port which goes into filter. Have some one raise and lower the suspension, i empty the reservoir of old pentocin, put new in the reservoir as it empties add more pentocin. The clear tube allows you to see the old brown pentocin changes to new green. Less intrusive than rodeo. Job for me again April.

As noted flushing ABC without STAR/Xentry can be performed to a degree but is time consuming.

The struts only have the one hydraulic connection and so must be exercised to help move the fluid within them in and out to draw fresh fluid mix in and push old fluid mix out.

I think that the MB standard is up to19 litres of Pentosin for a full flush, even though the system holds far less than that.
By and large the system is self purging of air when running, but I believe that there is a bleed point near each strut for initial connection.

Note that the system runs at 200bar or 3000psi so car must be taken when dealing with the high pressure side if the engine is running.
