Good luck with the fingers Malcolm, many moons ago I had an accident on my foot (dont ask) unfortunately my outcome was not so good, the doctor was not very good and gangrene set in and they had to take off what he had messed with, and believe me he had messed.all right,I watched him do it,he had my toes in a bowl.and then tried to sew them back,

Regards John

That "mod" looks brilliant!

I thought with all the teasing about the "part 2 mod" we would be seeing the first 230 with dirty great chrome arches on it!

You cannot really see it, and that is the way it should be, had I not done it when I did the rust would be up onto the side after this Winter. as you well know the rust creeps under the paint and its too late once its crept round to be seen

Good luck and it is simple, if doing the work now then a heat lamp is a must, it will get the paint to flash off quickly (touch dry) the paint acting as a glue for the next coat and prevent runs, many thin coats are better than a few heavy coats where the paint may run.

Any questions please ask

Thanks for this Malcolm, really great!

I just wish the previous owner of my car had done this before it spread!

Very well done and a great mod .

This would be a good idea on my W210 as I have a very small amount of surface rust and this would catch it .

As I am newish to this site can you help with sourcing the stuff off of e bay with any sort of link and secondly can anybody recommend someone who might do the work for me for payment of course . I am based in Hants between Guildford & Portsmouth - or recommend a garage to approach

Many thanks

Anton

For the outlay involved perhaps this job should be done to all subsceptable mercs before rust is evident.

This was my thoughts Fronstep, prevention is better than cure, and the cost of the mod is £10 and a couple of hours work

I think I am repeating myself, but perhaps MB could do it as part of the service !
Maybe a few indies might offer it on a big service as well.

Sorry frontstep I see what you mean, it does work as there is no upstanding edge and all well protected once done.

I will have a word with some

It will work on any upturned lip or edge on the inside, you can feel it with your finger, most of the construction is the same right up to a few latest models where the arch design has been changed

Part 2 is in the DIY section and involves the fitting of the Mini gutter trim to the rear arches
