Hi
I'm new to this forum, but have been running mercs for years. Can anyone answer my query...........................My 33td,'99, has just developed a vibration/noise from the near side rear wheel, I suspect that the wheel bearing is on it's way out, any idea of cost to have this done in main dealer, also is it a "home" job, and how difficult and time consuming is it to do?

Thanks

Ian

A bad bearing can be felt by jacking the car, turning the wheel by hand, it feel like the wheel is moving over an toothed object. when driving a hum or drone sets in at around 20mph +.

Not easy to do a back wheel as the drive shaft must be removed, it depends on your compitance. You could always ask a good indie for a qoute.

Often accompanied by wear on the inside or outside of the tread on the tyre. Check that the balance weight is still attached to the wheel and also check the condition of the shock absorber. Seems a little young for a wheel bearing to have failed.

More likely drive shaft joint (not prop shaft).

Look at both rubbers to see if there is a split in one of them.
