I'm wondering if this is eligible to be added to the DIY section by a mod?
Report back after it’s been in the rain first to finish it off ;)

Haha fair enough.

In Ireland... not much shortage of that.

Doesn't look like it's raining... ;)

Great picture though - :p:p

Ok, you do you. If you don't want to out it in the DIY section then so be it.

But I didn't say its currently raining. I said it rains last night. It has since stopped and dried a bit. With both cars in the frame having been driven.

Sorry for getting a bit sparky yesterday. I guess I was having a bad day and didn't realise until i re-read my message.

That's a great job there Conor, well worthy of the DIY section! :D Ours needs doing for cosmetic reasons, but that means breaking my recently introduced "if it ain't broke don't fix it" rule.

Just chiming in to say that after many rainy days, the boot remains "bone dry"..

I am thrilled to bits with this repair.. Next up I need to look at the boot struts and the rattling heat shielding.

Heat shield should be a perfect time to test your skills with the new welder

Decent job. Only thing I would done different was to use deox gel until all traces of oxide were gone, then two coats of electrox primer followed by epoxy mastic but what you've done should last a good while!

How can you tell when all the oxide is gone? I used two coats, and after that point, you were just painting over the initial layers and no longer hitting the rust itself.

I agree, the 1k spray black paint seemed like a light tough way to finish it up.

It should last a while alright and if I need to it again, what harm.

With deox gel, you keep applying and agitating until you have completely clean steel. It's quite cool to see up close because once it has removed all the oxides from the bottom of the craters it looks like miniature honeycomb. If you have any trouble with it in the future try deox gel til all traces of rust are gone/ clean steel all round then either go on with epoxy primer like lechler 29107 or bilt hamber electrox.

Fair enough. I think what I have done should be decent for a while anyway. Thanks for the tip.

(Puts tail between leg).

I washed the car the other day with power hose.. noticed the boot separator flap was nicely wet.... The separator was up, but if it had been down, the usual spot on carpet would have been wet.

Not sure why this is. Or what is causing it. Perhaps the rubber seal piece is a bit warped and not letting the water run through to the drain. Did I miss a part of Malcolms fix where he left a small piece of hose in there or something to keep it open?

See highlighted area, do I need to do something with this? Or did I just do a bad job? Perhaps was just the extra flow of the power wash...? Because to be honest, it's rained plenty since the repair and boot has stayed nice and dry..
