I'm guessing: the doors aren't deep enough to allow the window to fully retract?

Are the electric or manual? they should wind all the way down i'm almost positive, they do on my '75 W114 and i've seen W123's with all the glass wound down, cant see why they wouldnt all wind all the way down on all versions, best get the side panels off and check, maybe someone has fitted speakers in the panels that get in the way?

About 50 secs into this slideshow theres a pic one with the rears all the way down.

thanks for so many replies all, tried another forum and got nothing!

yes the 123 coupes all roll down all the way, pointless having a pillarless coupe for any other reason i reckon.

will be taking it all apart next week but wanted to be prepared ive heard the mechanism is a bit complicated, kinda hoping its a case of grease needed and not rot somewhere in the system. maybe i will do a walk through with pics for the site as a thank you

I have one spare mechanical winder linkage if you need one, not sure what side it is but i can soon check, i assume its the same for both our cars, the look very similar in that area.

thanks for the offer Pop, ive since learnt that theres a metal part inside that bends and leaves the windows doing exactly the same as mine, gonna take it apart and see if they are repairable or if i need to get new ones. i am under the impression that the 114 coupe shares a lot of common parts is that right? i wanted one but they are going up in value all of the time. i love the headlights o n that model

If you look at the benzworld thread, you'll see that I posted there (ransos). As I said, for a permanent repair, you need to buy the replacement parts from the dealer - the originals had a design fault weakness that has since been strengthened. My windows worked perfectly all the way down after the repair.
