I am surprised they have you the thumbs up considering the state of the band.

The functional test was what gave the thumbs up. Not entirely happy with the thinking but not much I can do without paying for a servo.

yes you need a neck like a giraffe, arms like a snake and need to be double jointed at least
just don't drop anything down the back while you're working on it ....
I dropped a 1/4" drive extension while doing the turbo actuator & then lost the magnet on a stick while trying to retrieve it o_O ....the under body covers had to come off to get them back.

Official recall letter arrived this morning.
This is what anyone with an ML, R or GL from 2006 to 2013 should receive.
If you don't I strongly suggest you contact your local dealer.

Got a letter from MB today, best we could get from MB Exeter appointment for them to check the car on the 9th of June !!

OK, so we have another car, but two weeks without being able to use the W164 is a bit rich, I would have thought compensation was in order, do class action legal cases exist in the UK?

No, they’re an American thing unfortunately.

That's pretty unacceptable.
Given this is a bank holiday season there will be many who will need to cancel or change plans as a result of this, let alone anyone who commutes or has no alternative vehicle.

Just been to check my W164, no rubber strip around the servo joint, and a part number of A1644300430

Anyone got a part number of their unit with the strip/corrosion? 5B6BC3F7-C0DA-4171-AE8A-6D730108867A.jpeg

Yeah, got one of these today myself. I’m stressed about a part that says “while we are doing this we’ll apply any other technical modifications that haven’t been carried out”. No you damn well won’t.

Got mine today in the UK. My brother posted me the pic too. The R class really is not the best. Expensive/pain in the ass to maintain and this the 3rd recall (in 2 years) on a 12 year old car. My W220 has wanted nothing bar service and consumables since 2004.

Problem is there's not much to compete with them for space/practicality.

Superb wagons. All the competition are jacked up off roader style. Soft spot for the R here.

Should be grateful really that Mercedes are prepared to recall cars of this age for safety concerns.
