Recieved a letter this morning from MB in Dorchester to say that through a joint effort between MB and themselves they wish to check my braking system on the SL.

I know that the last recall check was done late 05. How do I know if this is some ploy to get my car into the worksop, or a new recall as I use MB SW and not Dorchester.

Though the car does make the loud humming from the SBC it does not bother me as you cant hear it when driving, only parked. Shall I say that the noise is terrible and get a new pump,as a new one must be better than the old.

Any thoughts please. Malcolm

i'm toying with the "my sbc is noisy" ploy when she next goes in. Must be worth a punt.
On the get it in the workshop stunt, who knows, but better safe than sorry I guess. After all, if they find what they're looking for, they're paying. If not, you can always say no. Plus, its a free coffee and some nice toys to play with while you wait...

Thank you Jberks for your answer,it just is not my line dealing with this type of thing.
As always you have given me a good sensible answer, and I will enjoy the free coffee and play

Thanks again, Malcolm :D

They won't change your pump the mod is a thicker pipe to stop it pulsating/vibrating.

I will try my jumping up and down act, shouting "I want a quiet pump" or I will go and eat some crisp and pop corn in the back of a Maybach.

Funny thing is that my car was checked in Liverpool 6 months before I bought it,I could not see the damper tube thing that Dave speaks of, I asked MB SW in Exeter, and it was done late last year.

As far as free tea & coffee goes my wife and son had plenty of that this morning along with sprite, fanta and Welsh Cakes whilst I looked around a S65 SMG - £149,700.
Going to the MB dealer seemed like a good idea, after all it is my sons birthday today :)

Happy birthday to your son.
If your buying him a £149,700 car, can you adopt me please . I don't eat much and can learn to put the toilet seat down. :p

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but just had a phone call from MB asking me when I can take mine in for this recall.

Apparently the work has been done on it (Jan 2006) but they need to check it out.

Did you ever get yours back to them Malcolm, or just leave it to develop?

I've got a couple of days to play with this week so may take it in for this check.

Took mine in last week, it took 20 mins. Mine had one check before I bought it last year, I think that this one is called an 37 or 87 what ever that is

Thanks Malcolm, just wanted to confirm it was worth having it checked.

I'll take it into them in the next couple of days then.

Trying another dealer this time as a little disillusioned with the last one.

Wonder what their coffee will be like? ;)

Yes, get it checked. The recall/mod/check will probably be a P037. The software will be checked & updated if ness, prolonging the service life.

They were supposed to phone me back with an appointment though never did :(

I'll wait another day then phone them as I'd like it done before Easter if possible.
