Hi

Just had my C320cdi in for its first service.Mentioned jerky downward gear changes into lower gears and was informed a general recall on its way. Also noticed in reviews of the new C class that they suffer from similar complaint. I have not seen any threads about this recall...anyone got more info' ?

Updates mentioned on this thread.

Either mine is updated or I haven't driven it enough as yet as to be honest I find it very good so far :)

My C230 went in last week as I had the same problems with clunky downchanges. Apparently they updated the gearbox and engine management software. It does seem OK now although the clunky changes only occured under certain conditions - coasting down an incline at around 20-30 mph.

The dealer admitted that the 7G is prone to these problems.

I also find that the car rolls back on slope if you take your foot off the brake whilst in drive. My wife's SLK doesn't do this (5 speed auto) neither did the Ford Cougar auto the C230 replaced. I mentioned this to the dealer and they informed me this was a feature of the 7G box. Has anyone else experience this with the 7G?

It's only because 1st gear is now lower than you are used to. Put box into "C" mode before starting up & try again. This will select 2nd gear instead of 1st.
