Mercedes saying to me “ that only happens usually if there was already an underlying issue but bring it in so we can check”. Think they are gunna try pull a fast one here

I would push them very hard to fix this FOC.

I suspect the update tightens the spec the sensors view as normal operating parameters.
The argument would be to have them prove it would have worked correctly from the factory and through the warranty period with the update, which of course they can't do.
You could equally argue they should have checked for "underlying issues" before fitting the update and not perform the update and that by not doing so they were negligent.

VERY good points LK. Going by the postings here, this is as bad as Dieselgate!

Cheers for reply’s. They said on phone that it only usually happens if there was a previous fault and there machine would tell them if this was case before putting the software on. The fact it went it with no lights and come out with one surly means they can’t argue the point. I’m really expecting them to start talking about egr and dpf replacement etc and how much of a coincidence it is

Assuming this is correct it would be reasonable to suggest the sensors were configured to the cheat software/ device parameters. Hence the eng mgt light when the update parameters are installed.

Would a sensor take it's parameters from a 3rd party computer already in the car or are they in built to the sensor?

If parameters in built the sensors should be changed when the update is carried out. If sensor taking parameters from a 3rd party computer in car then again there is an incompatability with updated software.

The other thing to bear in mind is that there appears to have been several iterations of some sensors, some of which require software updates to function correctly. It could be interesting to know if this update requires a later sensor for compatibility reasons and that dealers or MB are hiding this to gain revenue for part of the work (not that I'm cynical).

Ok so mercedes come and picked the car up, put the diagnostic machine etc on and it come back with impact to throttle or something. It was down as an event rather than a fault. They have cleared the event and light etc. They said it’s nothing to do with the software they put on as that’s not included. Any ideas on what could cause this ?

I forgot to mention on the same day someone drove into the drivers side front bumper. Nothin serious but wondering if that would affect the throttle ?

Did the light come on at the same time?

Normally I wouldn't expect a bump to affect the throttle pedal however a bad enough bump will shut down the fuel injection as a precaution to prevent any risk of fuel spraying from possible damaged fuel lines, however a bump of that size would normally deploy airbags too (if the car was being driven).

It came on about an hour later. Been speaking to a Mercedes specialist garage and Apparantly it has a crash detection system that would put the car into limp mode even with a slight knock. It’s now with the insurance company as luckily the woman that went into me left her details

Received recall letter today and looking into the experiences of others and recommendations I do not wish to get this done. However, as this recall now sits on the DVSA record would this mean car would fail next MOT.
