At the service last month I was advised that my 2013 E300 needed a recall to fix / replace the injectors. I don't know if this was a recall for all E Classes, or something specific to the E300.

After having the work done, it started to feel as if the car wasn't running quite as well as it did before. It is much less likely to coast on electric power now, and at times it seems a bit hesitant. At full throttle it also seems a bit down on power. I thought I was imagining it, until I mentioned it to my wife who said that she felt the same when she drove it.

I would be very interested to hear if anyone else has had this injector recall done, and whether or not they have noticed any difference.

Thanks,
Simon

I was thinking the same thing! I have to assume that unless pretty much every diesel Mercedes has been recalled, it can't be anything too suspicious.

Simon, when mine was mechanically broken down in July with a gearbox ECU issue they also replaced all the injectors too- apparently it would have been getting a recall anyway. Sadly can't tell you how it drove afterwards as I didn't get the chance to try it out!
To add insult to injury by the way, after having the car for nearly 6 weeks in repair my leasing company charged me an additional 6 days contract hire as they couldn't collect the car on the surrender date. In a small dispute to try to get MB to pay that back at the moment...

Typical! My dad recently returned his leased company Mercedes, and the guy who was supposed to check it over was ill on collection day. Mercedes sent another driver, who gave the car a cursory inspection and said that there were no obvious faults. Surprise, surprise Mercedes has now sent an invoice for 'repairs'! The car was in perfect condition, and had only done 18000 out of its allocated 30000 miles. Needless to say, this invoice is now in dispute.

luckily didn't have any 'damage' claims, it went to Manheim direct and they graded as class 1 on the website, so I knew there was no damage comeback (always good to check!), issue with me was having the car 6 days more than contracted-even if I didn't have it!!

New E300 On Fire

John,

Well I can now see why the car wasn't running so well - there was a major problem with it. It caught fire this afternoon, and is now a burnt out shell. :(

It may just be a coincidence that this happened a week or two after the car was recalled for an injector issue, but I guess we will never know now.

Not sure exactly what happens now, but I assume this will count as a 'warranty issue' and I will get a loan car for a while ...

Running perfectly

My E300 goes in for injector recall next Friday, my car is running perfectly. When I asked why they were being changed the guy on service desk was very vague, he said that Mercedes were just updating their cars to the latest injectors, this seems unlikely but I cannot argue that point.
Do any of the professionals on this forum know any more?

Unsure why MB cannot resolve.

My 2010 (E250Cdi) was completed a year after purchase. Guys told me it was approx £1800 had I needed to pay.

Utter... You-know-what! There is no way any manufacturer would simply change out perfectly serviceable items for "updated versions".

There is an issue, no doubt.

Ask for part number/details on these new miracle injectors, what the differences are, etc.

You may also ask if they update your COMAND to the latest firmware & maps FOC... just because there is a newer version out!

What a load of sh!te. If that's the case I'm having the engine swapped in mine for the 265ps 350cdi version and the COMAND swapped from NTG4 to NTG4.5 as they're both the latest versions for the S204!

They don't fix something that isn't broken (and sometimes still don't when it is) so there will be a reason either due to safety concerns or a technical failure.

As usual the people you speak to on the phone aren't given the information to brief people properly.

Obviously at this stage I can't say for sure that the injectors are to blame. There are three obvious possibilities:

1. The injectors. The car was definitely running better before the injectors were changed. However, it has been several weeks since they were changed, so I would have thought a fault serious enough to cause a fire would have shown up before then.

2. The hybrid system. This car has had one catastrophic failure of the hybrid battery, so it has form. Once again though, it has been running well for the last year.

3. Engine fire recall. It seems like quite a coincidence that some E classes would be recalled to fix an issue which can cause engine fires, then mine happens to suffer from an engine fire. Incidentally, the local service manager claimed to have never heard of such a recall, until I quoted him the VOSA recall number, then he went rather quiet. Full denial is obviously the default response.

If I had an E300 which was due to go in for the injector recall, I would request more information from Mercedes technical first. This thread was started to report poor running following the work, and that is enough of a downside without the engine fire - which may or may not be related.

Well John that's cheered me no end.
I am beginning to think mine can go back in July next year, but to be honest it is running beautifully at moment.

have you seen Simon's post on his going up in flames?
I too had a car which was running smoothly....

Yes John I am watching this post with interest.
I am thinking that hanging on to the hybrid after the manufacturer warranty is not a good idea, shame really as it drives beautifully and for such a large car is very quick yet economical.

i have a feeling that there will be a lot of very cheap hybrids around at 3+ years old!
