Now that I have seen the light and will be getting my next service done by MBS rather than the main dealer, I need to replace the Mobilo cover.

Any recommendation or names to avoid. I will go for full roadside, recovery and at home cover - for UK and Europe.

Are you on O2 for your mobile phone? If so, on Priority there is a 50% off offer on AA breakdown cover currently. Might be sufficiently cheap. My wife has AA that we used a few times on the Motorhome when we had it, always quick to arrive and get us going again.

An HSBC Premier account affords similar benefits but I question whether its worth the circa £12 monthly fee.

I have found in the past that joining the AA or RAC is beneficial the first year with big discounts to entice you to join, then they take the p by sending a silly renewal premium. That is when I'd negotiate a better deal or leave and join the other service. Play them at their own game.

On my Nationwide the monthly £13 is reduced by the 3%account interest which takes the sting out of it . The main reason I have it is because of the European breakdown cover . The trouble with AA/RAC is the price quotes for Euro breakdown cover .

I am another vote for Nationwide with European cover.

If you are lucky enough for your MB to be a second car, ClassicLine insurance includes full UK and EU breakdown and recovery (car and people), my 968 cab comprehensive insurance (self and wife, 5K miles limit) is about £240pa!

Check with your insurer , often they can give you a good deal as an add in
Before I had alternative cover I had Green Flag and had occasion to call them out a few times . Apart from one incident where they sub contracted a recovery I found them very good

I run a van in addition to my MB, when I renewed the insurance on the pair I asked about breakdown cover, it was about £28 per vehicle, I stated the obvious - I only drive one or the other never simultaneously! - no joy.
I want me covered not a specific vehicle....

I have a Lloyd's account and it includes breakdown and recovery for me (not the vehicle). Used it several times (I had Land Rovers) and it's been excellent.

I had personal cover with my Green Flag policy which covered any car I was driving, or even passenger in.
You had to state a lead car and the cars you normally drive. IIRC was about £24 a month

You need one of the upgraded accounts - the higher the upgrade the bigger the benefits but the more it costs.
Mines a Platinum account and comes with travel insurance, mobile phone insurance, breakdown and recovery (via AA) and a few other bits. They debit the account fee monthly.

Just had my AA renewal come through.... £215

This covers me and the wife... any vehicle - currently two cars and two motorcycles (but could increase :p), home start (she drives a Land Rover) and national recovery. I checked online and a new customer could get the same package for the introductory price of £140 so got straight on the phone. I now have a revised price of £160 for the same cover and retain my Gold Member benefits.

Might still sound expensive but since I started using the AA app to take advantage of some of the Gold membership benefits I have saved a fortune. 20% off meals at "Vintage Inns" saved me over £70 on two meals with the family in December alone.

Ask your local general garage if they provide any local recovery on an ad hoc basis , may be cheaper than the bigger organisations ??

I changed to Green Flag a year ago.

They are so good, I've gone the whole year without a single breakdown!
I've just written to thank them.
Did they reduce your premium to thank you :D ?
