Hi all,

Has anyone had to have the rear screen surrounding bodywork from their W126 or W123 sut out, with new metal let in?

I need to do this now on my 230E as the often-quoted rubber seal has... failed!

The rust is just starting to buddle under the seal, and I'm sure it'll be REALLY bad all the way!

Any reccomendations as to experts of this peice of bodywork would be well recieved!

thanks

>Joe

p.s. I understand there may be severe costs involved, but.... it's a minter otherwise! 102k, non-worn velour interior, plus unusual options!

thanks!

I have had the same problem on 2 w123 coupes. On my current one there is a small bubble, but you can check if it's serious by removing the parcel shelf and poking around the area with a screwdriver to see it it's rusted through. Mine was ok so I applied kurust under the seal, re-sealed with silicone and then touched in the paint. I had a quote to fix bubbles on the bootlid, sunroof & rear screen seal for £1100!

From turning my head 180 degrees under the parcelshelf... plunged inside the boot...(!) I'm afraid I can see the inside of the car! It's also probably now eaten its way along under the seal...

so I'm thinking not even a screen repair firm will be *able* to replace the dead seal.. with this much rust in the corner of the bodywork... and even if they could.. it wouldn't arrest the problem.

It looks as if I'm going to have to get a proper job on this... and get some new metal let-in to the affected area. Hmm. Donor car time, perhaps?

Update - this work has now been done at a cost of £300, plus the £40 for a genuine MB seal. And yes, the rot had spread right under the rear of the seal... I'll post pics.
