SL55 AMG with F1 Performance Pack
How can l find out what shape or the correct EBC part numbers are for replacement RedStuff pads for my SL55 AMG?

The problem is that l have the F1 Performance Package with bigger rotors (390mm) and the l don't think the 'standard' EBC RedStuff pads, with the code DP31486C, will fit.

EBC say if l can provide an outline/drawing of the pads in my car they should be able to identify them and supply them. ls there a MB website which would provide the required details?

The standard SL55 pads look like these:

http://www.brakes4u.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=DP31486C

.....but as l say, l don't think they will fit the brakes fitted with the FI Pack.

I have been thing about this what we need is a VIN number form a car that uses them,,or maybe the part number for the ones that are on the car. I will take a look on the latest EPC in the morning

I've no idea what the F1 Performance Pack is but I do know that Redstuff pads can struggle to get up to temperature in everyday driving and are better suited for track days.

I cannot agree with that, having used the red pads, the black pads yes, but not the green or red,,

HI,
Red stuff pads are standard road going replacement pads for MB's with over 200BHP (My C43 for example). Though they might struggle with smaller lighter less powerful cars to get up to temp.

Not unless these brake parts are an extra, a VIN for a car that used the calipers then yes

The F1 Performance Package was fitted to the car from new as an optional extra so they are proper AMG brakes.

Thus, the pads will be an official MB part.

So if it was good enough for AMG how do you think EBC pads will improve things? It can't be cost if you can run an SL 55? :)

Sorry, l didn't explain fully.

The problem l have is that the brakes squeal horrendously at low speed (crawling in traffic below 10 mph). The car has been into two MB Dealers and a good Indie and none of them can cure it.

Thus, l'm now looking to replace the pads. lt doesn't have to be EBC pads necessarily - l just want quiet brakes.

l'm not looking to improve the brakes as they are outstanding already and cost is not a factor either.

Any tips or suggestions welcome?

Hi..
The link to the latest EBC catalogue is below.
It shows the shapes of the pads and also different "qualities"

http://www.ebcbrakes.com/Assets/2008_UK_Automotive_Catalogue.pdf

Hope this helps

OOps sorry, I just noticed you have this info allready..

Actually, that is quite useful as l've noticed the SLR would appear to use the same pads as listed for the SL55?

l thought the standard front discs on a SL55 were 360mm, but a SL55 with the F1 Pack and the SLR both have 390mm discs?

Thanks for that Malcolm, although l'm not sure l fully understand.

The car had fitted from new the F1 Performance Package which MB themselves confirm:

"Thank you for contacting the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center Maastricht N.V. I have discussed your query with my Technical Department who have confirmed that your vehicle was fitted with the Performance Package and therefore the brake discs and pads used on this model are larger than those fitted to a standard SL 55 AMG."

All l really want to know is if l buy the EBC RedStuff pads (p/n DP31486C) will they fit. l don't think they will.

The brakes show up by using your complete VIN as
The front are

A004 420 45 20

And the rear

A003 420 62 20

The above was done with you complete VIN.

for a normal 230474 AMG 55 they come up as

The front are

A003 420 53 20

And rear

A003 420 25 20

So the top number do seem correct for you car
