I have an e240 estate. Occasionally, the computer tells me "light defective", the light concerned being one of the rear registration plate lights. I tap the lens, and on it comes. Computer happy!! Replaced bulb - no difference, so I presume it is a wiring problem - certainly one I can live with, esp as all I have to do is give it a little tap!

However, does anyone know if it would be a case of stripping down the entire tailgate (at enormous expense, no doubt) to rectify the problem?

Thanks.

Get to the bulb, turn the lights on and wriggle the bulb or tap it it could just be dirty contact in the holder

A good switch non drying cleaner is good as it does not remove the flash plating from the bulb or holders

The 210's do suffer from bulb contact corrosion so a quick clean up of the contacts on the bulb and the bulb holder with very fine emery paper is the fix.

A little waxoil on the lamp base (and on electrical connections) will help keep the corrosion away.

Also slightly pinch togther the bulb holder contacts and this will help keep a good firm contact
