Recently acquired a low mileage N reg. E320 Elegance. Very good car.

However, one of the remote controls is expiring. It will only work when held against the windscreen behind the rear view mirror. Replacement batteries gave no improvement
:)
This model has the flick-out key and one button to control the alarm/immobiliser. MB dealer quoted £130 plus VAT for replacement.

Any ideas on a less expensive solution would be much appreciated.

They can be repaired if you can find someone, if you know anyone or have a friendly garage, ask who they use to repair their ECU's etc.

I would be surprised if you find someone who is willing/able to carry out a repair on your fob......taking into account any labour charges/parts costs a repair is likely to be 'uneconomical', you will almost certainly be better off opting for a new one imo.

Not true, I did two for a friend with a RX6 it took one hour, and helped an electronic friend with his Citreon XM, that saved him £175. In this case the fault is in the front end and the parts cost nothing, there are plenty of electonic eng; working from home willing to have a go. What some people throw away, has given me a very good living.
