i tried the remote parking ability on my new C238, and it's fun, but weird to work with, does anyone actually use this and if so, why ?

You mean the one where you’re not in the car?
Not sure anyone on here will even have it ( except your good self!)

I don’t have that on mine but I suppose it might be useful when some pratt parks his car inches from your driver's door and you can’t get in.

As far as I was aware this particular app wasn't available in the UK?

I know that my W213 didn't have it and that it couldn't be ordered from the ME store online. I'd be happy to be proved wrong as it would be handy for tight situations but not a lot else I could think of really apart from impressing a lot of strangers at a car meet. :)

SWMBO uses it all the time.
- At least, she tells me to park/unpark (<?) it!

my previous W213 didn't have it either, i think it's an option that comes with drive pilot (or whatever that option is called), and then you can purchase the ability, it comes with 40 days free to test it out.

I have tried it for fun but its just a novelty actually. And the distaff side can't bring herself to use it as she "gets scared taking my hands off the wheel"....

The one Niall is referring to is on your phone and you’re not even in the car...

yeah i've a video of it in action on my facebook page, if anyone's interested here it is https://www.facebook.com/Niall.C.Brady/videos/2380062752101131

in the video i start the car (from outside the car, using an app on my iphone) and reverse it into another parking space, it does all that great but then 'parks' itself slightly out from where it should have ended. I need to test this feature some more....

There is/was a video on Merc's web page that showed a heavily pregnant woman using her phone to drive her car out of the parking space as there wasn't room for her & her bump to get down the side of her car ..... I can't find it now though

I have it on my W213, but WAY too scared to try it. I have tried self park a couple of times when I was sat in the car, but it didn't fill me with confidence, plus it also did a lot of "move to position A, full lock to lock while stationary, move to position B" which can't be good for the tyres.

Also, IIRC, it can only drive out a space if it drove in in the first place, so not much use if you come back to your car to find yourself boxed in either side.

Less about the tyres than all the steering and suspension components to me. Try turning your wheel with the engine off and you get an idea of exactly how much force is required. That force has to go somewhere...

Think a lot on here are still confusing active park assist and remote parking, as said I don’t think remote is available in the uk?
