I have a 2005 c class avantgard estate with an Audio 50 APS, which has a Mercedes 6CD changer in the glove box. I wish to use my Ipod instead of the multichanger and to that end have bought the necessary wiring to plug into the unit. I understand this goes into the socket currently used by the CD.
Does anyone know, or have access to the removal instructions for the APS 50, or can perhaps tell me the procedure.
Many thanks and a happy New Year to all.

Many thanks, this looks as though it has all I will need. Now I will just have to try not to break any fastenings or clips during the procedure.
I will post the results after.
If my eyes are serving me correctly,is that a German plate on your estate. Are you based there. I am now retired to the South of France and wonder how many expats are registered with the forum. Just idle curiosity.

No, not mine, just the only picture I could find of my model. I am based in good ol' Blighty ;)

Good luck with the upgrade :p

I now have the unit removed from the car and am having a problem. Nothing is ever easy!
The socket that Incartec want me to put their connector into is already occupied by another.
The chap at Incartec tells me I will have to take the pins out of his plug and insert them into the existing. Problem is there are already wires in the positions I need!!. Do you by any chance have access to a socket diagram for the APS 50 unit. I might then be able to sort matters out. I am awaiting a file from Incartec but he seems to be over his head at the moment, probably having just returned from the Christmas break and at ther moment the car is in bits in my drive!!
Hope this is all clear and look forward to hearing from you.

As promised here is a possible procedure for removing the APS50 from aC220 CDI Avantgarde. 2005.

First remove the gear selector surround. You will need a small wedge. There is a Mercedes part number for this but no dealer near me, so I made mine from a piece of hardwood. 5cms long 1cm wide with an angle of around 15degrees.
First you push the wedge in at the back of the gear selector gaiter surround. A firm push and the surround will rise slightly. Then a fairly wide screwdriver wrapped in card and twisted, will bring it up out of the clip. Press in lightly at the sides and it will release and can be pulled up over the lever and left there. Gently with this as it’s made from chromed plastic.
Next the stainless steel covered surround. (Avantgarde). You can gently pull this up from the front. I found best with fingers, but be careful you could bend it. When the front has come away you can put fingers in the selector aperture and pull it up from there to release the clips halfway along. Slide it forward slightly and it will release from the rear. Turn at 90 deg and it will pass over the selector gaitor. This is also a bit of a pig to put back in and needs some care.
Next the ashtray. This releases by putting a thin screwdriver behind the clips at the rear, one at a time and pull up gently. When it’s free of the clips you can pull it out by rolling it upwards.
The top vents are next. For me anyway. There are two lugs at the left hand side of each vent. You push the bottom one in, with a thin screwdriver and roll the vent upwards. It will go up farther with the lug pushed in. Now, with the aid of a light you will be able to see inside the bottom of the unit, two screws. Release the screws. Stop turning when you feel them leave their threads. They are trapped. Then roll the vents down and insert a screwdriver in the top lug on each, rolling down at the same time and it will reveal the top securing lugs. Mine were reluctant to roll down and required a little perseverance. You need a screwdriver underneath the lugs, pulling on the unit at the same time and it will release and slide forward. The same with the other side and you can then pull it out.
The switch panel is retained with two screws, now visible. Take these out and the panel can be pulled off the spring clips at the bottom and will come out. Release the plug.
The aircon control panel is the same, with the reservation that the screws, accessible from underneath, are not trapped and you need care not to lose them. This panel will release in the same way as the switch panel.
The APS50 retaining screws are then visible. Take care when removing the unit as the CD changer is connected with fibre optic cables and they are fragile. They will break if bent too much. The plug is removable by pushing in the latch and pulling the retainer around and the plug rises out.
Assembly a reversal of the above.
Please remember these are intended to be guide lines only. I accept no responsibility for anyone damaging anything while carrying out this procedure.
In another quote on this thread whitenemesis give a web site which is useful. My car is, I think, a later car and not quite the same.

Whilst writing I have still not found a socket diagram for the APS50 and now find that Mercedes have issued an edict that no garage is to pass any information to anybody other than an approved repairer. So I am unable to access the information from a dealer. Thanks Mercedes, I cannot remember how many of your cars I have owned over the years. You pays your money and it’s still not yours!
So I have the wiring from Incartec, who couldn’t have been more helpful and at the moment cannot wire in my Ipod. Just because I do not wish to spend the money Mercedes want to do the job?
Thanks again whitenemesis for your help.
Richardtoo.
