Viewing my w124 (from the inside), near the bottom of the A pillar there are some motion sensors which are wired into the dashboard (they have a little red LED that lights up when you see motion.

Trouble is the passenger side one has an annoying rattle inside and it is driving me insane! Therefore can the wire just be cut and then all i lose is that motion sensor, or will cutting the wire cause the alarm to go off or any other problems?

Sorry if its a silly question but the rattle is SO annoying and i really don't need the motion sensors!

Thanks,
Ben

It could cause more problems cutting the wires, better to disable the motion sensors and try to fix the rattle.
If the rattle is coming from the sensor itself it should be possible to open it and stabilize whatever is making the rattle.
Perhaps its mounting on to the A pillar is loose?
What kind of alarm key fob do you have?

Thanks Dec, the car has MBSS (the green and red LEDs in the door lock). The key-fob is as attached.

The annoying thing is the alarm siren was removed by whoever had it before so motion sensor is useless anyway, but the indicators do still flash if the alarm goes off, so can't have that happening!

I've taken it off its fixing and rattle is from inside, will have a look if I can't just cut it off!

There might be a slot that is pushed inwards either side of sensor to allow you to open it up. There should be some way of disabling the motion sensors, if for example you wanted to leave a dog in the car but still arm the alarm.

Cutting the wires while there is power going to the sensors is not a good idea. If you do decide to cut the wires, leave enough wire ends to allow you to reconnect the wires again just in case cutting causes more problems.

Any way of leaving as it is only move it somewhere in the car where you cant hear it?

Interesting that we have never had a rattling sensor before,if you can open it and put a tiny piece of foam to pack it out, it can be resealed with plumbers pipe solvent
