Removing registration plates

Does anyone have a good method of removing number plates that have been attached using those two sided sticky pads? I have had a good pull on the plates and they are stuck solid.

My registration change has arrived and I need to get the old plates off and I don't want to damage the paintwork.
Any ideas appreciated

Strong plastic fishing line/strimmer line worked behind the plate in a sawing motion--clean off any residue left on paintwork grently with turps or white spirit

Simple, just use a heat gun and they will come off with ease

As above...mine fell off in the hot sun last week!!

I agree with Teddycatkin and use a cheese wire. I've used dental floss in the passed though. ;-)
