Removing tyre finish from alloy wheels

Had the SLC serviced last month which included a valet, but they also put tyre finish on the tyres. I used a different MB garage so its the first time tyre finish has been put on the tyres, not something I would have done.
However today hot soapy water would not shift the deposits on the alloys, I ended up using white spirit. Has anyone else had this issue & used a different method?

All purpose cleaner or citrus cleaner normally quite good at cleaning tyres, work in with a brush, then rinse off (ideally with pressure washer).

A lot of alloy wheel cleaners are now also useful at cleansing tyres.

White spirits or turps even diesel ..what ever you use , wash off after with soapy water

Hmmmm, white spirit is a solvent and rubber is porous.

Hate the stuff with a passion, makes such a mess of anything it touches and had many an argument with the boss over him using it. If I have to remove a set of wheels at work l wipe the muck off with a microfibre cloth and brake cleaner then once the wheels are off give it a good brushing with TFR and wash off. Cloths go in the bin.
