So, Renewal is 01 Feb 2020.

I am planning on getting my quotes setup as close to 30 days before as possible.

This time around it will be multi car and a lot of online tools don't support this.

If you you were to suggest 3/4 providers to quote from, who would they be?

I liked Chris Knott a lot last year so they will be one, along with the others suggest on MBO page?

Anybody else worth a shot?

I will have certified NCB of 4 years this time around, no "convictions" or accidents.

* Will be the 2004 R230 SL 500 5.0 Ltr and 2010 E 350 3.5 Ltr at about an aggregate 4500/5000 miles per year.

Any ideas?

Admiral multi car for me , BMW and Subaru on the same policy.

They seem very receptive towards modifications , at a cost obviously, which is handy as i cant leave the ****** things alone.

Admiral for me too for the past eight years. Always open to haggling and have my modded E55 with them for a little extra.
Never had to claim so unknown on that front but always good on price.

Mercedes. I always do a spot check with the Meercats but MB give me the best deal on 2 cars.

Personally I’d never have a multi-car policy. Lost too much no claims discount doing that on motorbikes to get burnt again with my cars.

I've never found multicar insurance to be better than single car insurance. I can usually get 2 car policies cheaper than I multicar and I don't have the restrictions of having both cars insured at the same time. I also don't like the thought that any discount you get on a multicar policy is taken back if you find cheaper insurance elsewhere on the second car, they basically tie you in.

LV for me - 3 cars with them (including R230). One with Admiral (r129 on a classic policy).

See if you can get the R230 on limited mileage classic car insurance as the second car and then the S212 as the primary driver via the comparison sites / supporters on here..

I used Lancaster Insurance for the R129

There are so many variables to an insurance policy (value, location, storage, use, experience, age, NCB, points on license etc etc ) that the only real way to get the right deal, is to shop around until you find the policy that suits your particular circumstances.

+1 for LV. Both our cars are with them, on separate policies, but with some sort of multi car discount. I have always found them reasonably competitive (but I’m old and living in leafy Hampshire ;)).

Sounds same as us. Not multicar here either but discounted as a result of several cars. I'm moderately old and living rurally (ish) too.

Good point Alasdair, I called mine multi car but strictly it’s as you say , I got a refund when I applied the second car as the renewals are different months

Interesting one regarding the multi policies and not a multi car policy.

I need to do some reckoning. Just been quoted ~£800 and ~£630 for E / SL respectively. SL was on 0 NCB with 4 years provable claim free years. That is still better than the £1578 I paid for the E class alone this year.

The silver lining is that I have no job to go back to so plenty of time to figure this out.

Hopefully somebody can give a decent enough price for the SL considering it will spend most of it's time in a residential cul de-sac type car parking area.

I must also get my licence converted to English actually. Hopefully that will help a bit too (Which I think somebody has already confirmed).

Aviva have been good for my SL insurance, I paid £189 this year, 2yrs NCB, over 25 years on a full UK licence, £400 excess, 4000 miles a year.

as per @rorywquin, there are so many variables that you just have to do the leg work and try every avenue as insurance companies seem to pull numbers out of hats. I think classic car insurance requires the car to be garaged so that might be out.
I can't understand why some insurers will quote me £200 for my SLK and other want £2,000 - how can that make any sense?

.. Just re-reading that. Surely it would be better to have a job, get paid and then the difference if premiums wouldn't matter, and i'd still be better off.. just saying what you guys were all thinking but too polite to point out :)
