That’s not what the new rules mean. They will be able to increase premiums but if they do it has to be done on new business AND renewals so there’s parity.
Insurance companies cannot no longer price walk policies for automatic renewals that what the new regs are for next year so if people do not want to change and stay with their company they cannot be charged more unless they contact to get a better deal like i do, i just do a bit of haggling with Hastings and they sort a better deal everytime so they can do it if they want to, just penalising people who just let them renew every year without checking and they pay more than needed

Insurance costs will rise… mystic Blobcat has spoken
I agree, people think this will force prices down but I think all it will do is killoff cheap deals for new customers.

I've just insured my Smart as I've recently got it back - it was £200+ on a multicar with my SLK or £187 on its own (no NCD as I've not had insurance on it for 4 years)

SLK is £226 on it's own this year (+9 year NCD) (Renewal was £300... from the same insurer)

Just done my renewal, was originally quoted ~£400, quick check and a call up to Admiral and after adjusting the mileage down (I certainly don’t do 15k a year anymore lol), there was a £26 saving for that and then another £68 discount that could be offered, so now my renewal is almost £100 cheaper this year compared to last with the same insurer and requirements

Well played , there does seem to be a trend of insurers sending through “high” renewal quotes in the hope that you will auto renew without checking .

And long may it continue, because it will always be cheaper for those of us that shop around...if they didn't do this we would see higher cost.

Aviva sent the renewal for my SLK of £216 which was £10 more than last year. Compare the Market suggested Saga who I have used before and they quoted £172.50 plus a £20 voucher through CTM for using them. Saga direct were £176.50 but they offered a 15% cash back so went with them and saved another £2.47..... We went out to lunch to celebrate my saving and spent £39.00........

AXA sent through a note to autorenew..........none of comparison sites came close. Note AXA autorenew cost 8% less than last year........:)

On the point over multi-car...............no company has ever (think first tested this concept 7 years ago) been able to offer a combined "value for money" price over 4 cars versus individually insured.

Similarly my motorcycles are individually insured as the top 3 bike insurers could not make the £s work for multi-bike.

Can only assume the actuaries do no have me in a catchment profile.

It is always fundamental to compare "apples with apples" from NCD, to excess(es), to breakdown cover, to helmet/clothing cover, to personal injury, etc, etc before saying one is cheaper/better value than another.

Yes this is the way it has been in the past, but look like you haven't heard about this...

Just had my renewal through for the Landy - last year £155.13 (with mods declared) - this year £341.55 (with mods but much lesser coverage...)

Did a compare and £93.39 later, I have insewerance for my modified Landy

One "mod" that I didn't tick is the below...

I wonder how many haven't declared... and could an insurance company get out of a claim??? possible for a stolen car as it was "more desirable"
