Insurance is a strange thing as i bought another c220 estate, 11 years newer, more power, more value yet nearly half the previous cars insurance cost ?

I have just received the insurance renewal for the insurance on the car. I have been with Tesco's for a few years now and I was a bit shocked on the renewal price. Last year I paid a £261 premium. This year they are asking for £361 !!.

I then rang a search on Money Supermarket and the best figure was £209, and surprise, surprise it was Tesco's. I rang them and told hem I was a little shocked by their renewal premium and that I had run a search on Moneysupermarket and come up with a figure of £209 quoted by Tesco of all people. The guy on the end of the phone said that they were happy to honour that price and if I would press go to site and give them the reference number they would process it at that price.

That is £152 less that the renewal quote and £52 less than last years premium. Why do they do it ?? They are obviously looking for gullible people to bolster their coffers.

Just goes to show if you shop about that you can get a better deal pretty easily and often from the same vendor too.

I think every business that can have variable pricing and promotions are all the same. A few years ago I had to Europe regularly and my wife found a travel agent selling "bucket price" tickets for the Seacat. I used to roll up ten minutes before departure time and show my club card then get put into the first-on/first-off position and was seated in their club area with free newspaper and free drink - yes: a G&T if I wanted! Thiq was such an absolute nonsense - I was paying less than anybody else!

One time I had to collect my ticket at the check in at Folkestone and got chatting with the lady who sorted it out. I casually said how ridiculous it was - I was a happy loyal customer but why couldn't I get my discount direct instead of getting it through an agent - who they paid commission for my business? She said they had said this to management repeatedly - and said that she should be able to immediately sign me up to the same Club Class package but management refused to let them!

No wonder they disappeared...
