Renewing Taxc Online/Driving Without Displaying A Valid Disc

Except that I hadn't renewed it until 4th Jan and wouldn't have anything to display until (potentially) the 14th.

Judging by the differing opinions on here and the other side, the call was well worth making.

I have just taxed one of the cars on line and it takes usually about 5 days or sometimes more to arrive. I was under the impression that there was 10-14 days grace to display the tax disc when it is applied for on line.

I think your greater worry here is the period between 31 December and making the online application/payment, IF you used the car on a public road at any time in that period.

For everything else, you have concrete mitigation.

Well idiot that I am I went to tax my 230ce on Friday only to discover that the MOT lapsed back in Nov. That was a hasty call to my mechanic asking if he would put the car in his back lot and get it MOT'd asap.

Whatever the dvla site states can be taken as gospel, even if the police subsequently disagree when pulled over..
When a motoring point of law is unclear the police get the correct interpreation from dvla ! Dvla have their own specialist team for this..
If it still cant be resolved then it can end up in a court case to debate the outcome...
