repairing broken W202 Key fob.

Thanks for all the help here. I've just prised open my keyfob (after much profanity and levering with a blunt knife) and the switch is indeed detached. I'll have a go at soldering it later.

I'm a bit worried that it still won't work as I have a different key for the ignition (I understand that this is far from unusual)

I'll let you all know how I get on...

OK, so now the LED on the fob lights up when the button is pressed but it doesn't appear to be talking to the car.

Any other ideas?

I got a faulty credit card size key fob for my W202, any guide anywhere to prise it open and have a look inside without breaking it?

It still flashes, checking for the battery functionality but it just that the W202 is not responding, had tried synchronising it. It probably got fried when went through the X-ray system at Stanstead airport security.

Look like I am the only one with credit card size key fob. It useful to put it in the wallet. Did Merc stops issuing them?

Hand up who else got credit card size key fob.

The card that the OP described was a keyless go card, it was an extra on many cars

Hi, just joined.
Like others before me, I have repaired my key fob before and it has worked ok. I have posted my problem on another thread though.
Both my key fobs work intermittently.
It is getting to the stage where I was asking auto-electricians if it is possible to by-pass the immobiliser system so that I can rely on the car starting, because as it is now, I'm afraid to go out in it and not being able to get home.
Latest saga was being stuck in a crematorium car park (really embarassing) overnight. Car immobiliser system disarmed first press of the key next day and allowed me to drive it home.
Anybody any ideas?

Check your batteries, if it is less then 3volts dump them, not worth the bother diagnosing it. Dont buy Energiser, it would not work nor from any 99p or 90p shop. Buy something like Panasonic or Swiss made if in doubt go to MB dealer, more expensive but worth it.

Synchronise your key fob with the system. Don't know how to do that? Look up your manual. Failing that you have to see whether the siren is rusted(mine did and I have to buy a new one, very rare to get it nowsaday, I had nothing to do one day and squirted some oil over it and it contaminated the circuit inside and rusted). If that is alright am afraid you have to look for the security module under the dash to see whether the connections are loose.

The short cut is to use the STAR.

Thanks for the reply.
I have switched off my siren but it still works ok.
I'm sorry but I don't know what you mean by the STAR???
