Does anyone know a repair service for a Comand 2.0 on a 2002 SL
The navigation CD is stuck (and cant be read). The local Merc dealer had a look but is quoting £3k for a replacement. All other functions Radio/Tel/TV work fine.
Advice would be appreciated

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I have the same car :D:D

There are 2 firms on Ebay that advertise a repair service on these units, and with a guarantee for the not ejecting issues and laser pick up repairs.

I bought a spare unit on Ebay working for £300 for mine, just in case, though care must be taken as there are 2 versions within a 6 month period.

If you would like the instructions on how to take it out, I can tell you

Thanks for that Malcom
I have booked it into Maple Audio in Bath on Monday, who are one of the firms you mention
I didnt have the nerve to try and take it out myself so it seems easier to take the car to them
I will post an update on the outcome

Its a pleasure,, they are easy to take out, with just 6 torx screws in the sides on the console and 4 in the comand, but if you are not used to pulling cars apart, then leave it to those that can, its a 20 min job max.

I have just got back from Maple Audio ( www.mapleaudio.co.uk) who repaired the unit for £259 in a couple of hours which I thought was excellent compared with the cost of a replacement unit. They seem to have a lot of experience with Comand and are doing a lot of business fixing OEM equipment which the dealers just want to replace at great expense. Interestingly they have offered their services to main dealers but have had little take up.

I think that they fit the laser and attend to the eject problems,,not that cheap, but not too expensive either
