Replace battery- lost codes?

I need to have a new battery fitted. What codes, if any, will I lose .

You will lose the memories on the windows and seats if you have memory seats. Depending upon how old your car you may need the radio code. To reset the windows open them and hold the button down for ~10 secs then close them and hold the button up for ~10 secs you will then get the one touch back.

Will any damage ensue if another 12 Volt battery is conected to the jumpstart points in the engine bay whilst the old battery is disconnected and changed?

No damage will occur as long as you get the polarity right, in fact this is the best way to keep all the codes.;)

Agreed, I did that with my W210, I connected another battery to the terminals under the bonnet whilst I changed the battery under the seat. The only point of caution is that once you have disconnected the battery your brain may tell you that the +ve terminal is dead so it doesn't matter if it touches any metal that isn't true of course as you have another battery connected so you could get some nice sparks and a fire if your really lucky.
