Hi Folks,
New member but a constant lurker on here,
The Aircon has not been working in my C180 for the last few weeks so I took it to a garage to get it cleaned and recharged. The mechanic told me that the valve is damaged so he can't fill recharge the aircon. He's tried unsucessfully to get a replacemant valve. Main dealers will only sell the pipe and valve.
Would anyone know what size valve I need and where I would get it please?
A heavily pregnant wife and car with no aircon in this heat is not a good combination lol.
Thanks,
C180Ireland

Hello and welcome, this is an impossible question as there are a few of them, it must also match up to job it has to do, you could try a breaker

Which valve is damaged? It may be possible to recharge the system via one valve. Indeed, some newer vehicles are only fitted with one valve.

It seems strange that a service item ie a valve should be part of a pipe :confused::confused: Have you asked at the dealers, or have you taken the the fitter's word for it? I'd been told the same thing by a few A/C 'specialists' about the HP or LP (can never remember which is which) fill valve on my Vauxhall's A/C system. In the end, I bought the valve from the dealers for a few quid :)

Hi guys, It was a so called aircon expert that told me this. I'm unsure if he said the LP or HP but said the schrader valve was damaged and leaking and that it was not a standard size that he had.
Are the LP and HP schrader valaves different sizes? He told me he rang the Merc dealers and they wouldn't supply just the valve.
I will try them myselves if soemeone can tell me what size schrader valve I need?
Thanks gain.

Hi.
I know this.
There are two pipes that run the right side of engine (looking at it)
The larger fat one is the gas return (suction) line. It connects from the evaporator in car to compressor.
The other thinner one, connects from the condenser (in front of engine fan) and also to the inlet via valve of evaporator. This one is called the liquid line.
Both of these pipes are replaceable, should they ever need be although the fitting are near impossible to get to. And its these two pipes that each have a connector fitting for a gage, charging etc.
The schrader valve inserts are indeed replaceable. They unscrew anti clock wise. But you need a special tool for this. They are also not the same as bicycle or car tyres, but do look and work the same way. Very often they do weep. Especially the hP side. Sometimes a quick 'flick' or light press will blast any crap out and moisten the seal again, thereby curing the leak.
But on no account try to do any repairs yourself until all the gas has been properly removed. Especially to the thin pipe / liquid line - RED connector.
Even with system switched off and not running the pipe WILL be full of high pressure liquid refrigerant. Seriously dangerous! If you get any on you, instant frost bite and serious burns, or even blinded.
A good fridge engineer will easily be able to replace the valve core using a special tool without losing the gas.

A standard valve core kit for any fridge engineer, depending on the valve core.
But a whole valve core removal kit is around 50 quid max.
Valve cores themselves are pennies.

I dont sorry.
Dont suppose there is any info in WIS?? Someone may kindly look it up and check for you.

But please dont try it yourself. You do also need quirky little tool to get it out anyway. Get a fridge firm / guy. Should be only a ten minute job.
And if they are any good they will all ready have a kit.

Thanks again cleverdicky.
Don't worry I'd not chance it myself.
