Hi All

The second key fob for my ML270 is in perfect working order but I can not attach any other keys to it as the loop is broken. I have bought a replacement fob of Ebay for £25. I would have used the old blade in the new fob but it is slightly thinner where it goes in to the fob! Today I had the new blade cut, it goes into and turns the ignition easily. However it will not start the engine and "error" comes up on the dash. Do you think that the metal blade has a chip in it?
Any help or advice will be much appreciated

Sorry it is not so easy.

Your fob contains 4 "sub systems".

1. An immobiliser to start the engine.

2. An RF (radio ) transponder to unlock the car

3. An IR transponder to unlock the car

4. A simple key to get you in and out in an emergency.

The first three systems also have to match the car.

You can transfer the "works" from your old key into the body of the one you bought off e-bay others will tell you how.

If the battery is disconnected you may have to resync the RF and IR systems.

However:
Will the old key start the car? If so the probable trouble is that the battery went flat. The battery powers the RF and IR entry systems. A new battery and a resync should fix the problem.

Why not just use the plastic case from the Ebay key, you must keep the original PCB
