Hi all,

We need a new physical key for our W220, with factory Keyless Go, as the existing keys are physically damaged. What are our best options?

Take key apart and insert innards into another similar key? If so what key generations will work?
Second hand key reprogrammed?
New key programmed to car?

Any ideas on prices and availability in Northants (without just going straight to a dealer... ££££)?

Thanks!!

The second hand key route is a none starter. Keys that are already programmed cannot be re-programmed.

It may be possible to buy a key, strip it and put the insides from yours into it, but be aware that if you damage your keys PCB or any other part, it would not work.

Main dealer keys are expensive, but at least you know you will get one that will work first time, or do a Google search... there are a few around the Northants area that say they will come to you and supply/programme keys

If you intend on keeping the car, bite the bullet and get one from the dealers, AFAIK they need to order from Germany as they need programming.

Wouldn't bother with cheap knockoffs.

Having never opened a key before, I have no idea how fiddley they are to take out the internals and replace.

You could speak to ReplacementMercedesKeys - based in Birmingham and a lot cheaper than a dealer.

If no luck there, try Remote Key Man in Oldbury. Very good service and cheap.
