Hi,

I've just had a quote for replacing the motion sensor / interior light unit which is mounted in the ceiling above the rear view mirror - it's going to cost over £700 from the local Merc dealership!!!

Apparently the unit is faulty which is causing the alarm to go off when the doors are locked.

Does anyone know of a cheaper way to fix or replace one of these units? (I'm guessing that there probably isn't but it's worth asking...)

In the mean time I'll try and decide if I can live with the fault. The siren has been disabled so now it's only the indicators that flash repeatedly. Unlocking and re-locking the doors stops the alarm, so effectively I'll be paying £700 for the privilege of only having to lock the car once instead of twice... Is it worth it????

If its only the motion sensor bit,,I will have a look to see if you can just take that bit off, then you could put the siren back again,,the other thing is from a breaker

what model is it?
I'm assuming a 210 E300td?
The units roof mounted units should be readily available used. They don't fail very often anyway - I've certainly never heard of one going - but think yourself lucky - the ones in the 211 are motorised - just think what they cost!!.

There is a shut off button on the dash for the interior sensor so you could just press it every time you get out - bit of a pain though.
I'd give MercMan in Southampton, and Dronsfields (nr Manchester) a ring. They'll no doubt have shelves full of them for sensible prices.

Sorry - should have said it's the Vito Traveliner (2005), not the W210.

The unit also houses the microphone for the handsfree kit and is linked to the COMAND system, so I'm not sure if the computer would be happy if I just swapped in a second hand unit?

Thanks for suggesting MercMan and Dronsfields - I'll give them a call and see what they say.

motion sensor

Hi, I too have a similar problem. Mines is a Dulainer 115CDI 2005. The ALarm has started going off but only when its dark! I covered the motion sensors with tape and it seems to have cured it! For the time being anyway!

Can you not adjust the sensitivity of the interior motion sensors ?

I can on my 1995 car which was a dealer fit addition to the Merc remote locking/total closure system.

Have it "coded" out of the system!!

there you go, cheap as chips and very popular with owners of rusty old 210s. ;) might not be possible on some models but chances are good that it can be done.

My alarm went off for the first time two weeks and again last night.
All lights flashing, internal lights on along with loud siren noise of course!

I will switch the motion sensor off but one comments mentions taping over the sensor - excuse the ignorance but where is the sensor located?

thanks

Hi,
Welcome to the forum,
What car is it?
From your name I see it is a C180, but what year is it?
But normally the sensors are at the top of the "B" pillers, early cars they were at the bottom of the "A" pillers.
Most MB's were fitted with a switch on the dash normally to turn off the internal sensors.

Cheapest way is per Colin, get a garage with a savvy diagnostic computer to turn the sensors orf. I did this on father-in-law's 1998 C240.
