Hi All,

4 weeks into ownership of my E280 my 3-pointed star has gone from the bonnet :(

I intend to replace it with a flat badge from an SL/SLK as another star will probably go in a matter of weeks. I am wondering if this is actually possible though? I assume it is given the two types appear to be the same size.

Also, how much should this (roughly) cost me?

Thanks,
SteveyT

Go to the dealers. It's pretty common for them to be stolen/vandalised and so they're generally always in stock. I think the star is about £17, so I would guess that the flat badges will be cheaper.

And how about connecting it to the battery to catch out the cretins that steal them

I thought of that also, but was thinkin more along the lines of a 240volt inverter
I could use a system like that but cant figure out how to connect it to valve caps.

Haha, it's so tempting. It would also be great for melting chav's plastic bodykits at the traffic lights...

Oh, back to one of my original questions, will the bonnet badge from an SLK/SL fit my E Class? Thanks.

Fibaman - Whereabouts in this wonderfully scenic county are you? I'm in Aycliffe - That explains why my star went in the first place!!!

The bonnet star for the 124 e280 is not the same.

The 210 280 is the same as the clk £12 from GSF

Hi again,

Just been down to the dealer's to order my new key (erk!!!) and asked about a new bonnet star. I was told that they could not supply me with parts that weren't specific to my car!!! Surely it's nothing to do with being a, well, rather young customer (only 19!!!)? I was also quoted £25 for a sticky-up one... No thanks.

Does anyone have a direct link to a flat star on GSF, I can't seem to find one.

Cheers guys,
SteveyT.

Hi all,

I've tried Euro Car Parts and got the same reply as I got from the Dealer!!!

Also rang the local(ish) branch of GSF and queried what would fit my car. The guy said he wasn't sure and to try askin MB!!!

I think i'll call again on Saturday when I have time to go to the place and just ask if they have any CLK bonnet badges in stock.

Cheers,
SteveyT

Hi. My first post ... so be gentle ...

I was searching on this subject because I'm worried the star will get stolen on the W203 I bought a few months ago. I found this guy who confirms this is a replacement flat badge for the upright star that I can put away until 1) I sell the car or 2) move to a nicer area!

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/55tech

The £25 is bearable but a shame it was another £10 to ship from Canada.

Hi Television.

I haven't tried a breaker yet but will. Is the badge area the same and the attachment the same for the original vertical star I have on the car and the flat replacements? The ebay user above (looks like the one I was looking at is gone .. I'll keep watching him) confirmed the one he ships is a direct replacement.

Either way I'm going to replace it before its stolen and the bonnet damaged in the process. Being my first Benz and all that!
