Not necessarily, no. There are some very cheap Chinese copies out there. Having said that, one of my customers supplied a Chinese copy for me to fit to his ageing W202. I told him I feared it would be a load of trouble, but he asked me to fit it anyway. Two years later it's still running beautifully.

Hi. I bought what is probably a knock off conductor plate from ebay last summer. (Merc symbols scratched out) was around £100 from a seller in Birmingham. It solved my problem of slipping out of gear sticking in gear etc. Enjoyed that job! :)

Question re Conductor plate for the 722.6 Transmission. Has this plate changed over the years? Would the plate from 2010 Merc w212 be interchangeable with say a year 2006 production 722.6 box? And what is the correct part Nr for the conductor plate for the w212 merc 722.6.?
Thanks for your help, Best Regards, Jim2

I thought, apart from a few stragglers possible, that 2010 on 212’s had 7g? Am I wrong ?

W212 definitely won't have a 722.6 'box

According to the VIN, WDD 212005,
Engine is:- 651925 30 191856,
Transmission is :- 722694 08 004159 ( Transmission Type =GA )
And further down the list :- 423- 5-speed automatic transmission.
Delivery Date:-22.02.2010 Market AG-Europe.
So I guess one or two 5 speed boxes were used in the W212? I remember from some years ago, ( many years ago, but maybe still valid, I think ) Vehicles which were destined for Ireland would have lower specs that their English counterparts.....this may explain it, or alternatively, these 5 speed boxes can be found in England ( and elsewhere ? ) Probably had to use up the 722.6 manufacturing run, before introducing the 7 Speed? I'm sure that there is an explanation for it.:)
What do you think?

Hi V6Matty, my car is the 200 CDI version ( if that makes any difference ). Just for the sake of argument, which box would you go for, given the choice? the 5 or 7 Sp?

After driving both a 211 with 722.6 and now the 212 with 722.9 Im on the fence, the 722.6 was silky smooth always in the right gear, the 722.9 is better on fuel, keeps me in the power band better but isn't nearly as smooth, also I can catch it out on gear changes but I use the paddles now so don't notice it do much

Going back to your original question though, I'd think the conductor plate as long as its from the same box would fit, my need some form of coding but should work, don't take my word as gospel though

Mercedes are now attempting to compete with the cheaper aftermarket 722.6 electro-plates by offering a cheaper alternative. The Mercedes reconditioned electro-plate, part number 140 270 11 61/80 priced at £142.00+vat. With a little haggling you should be able to get one for £127.80+vat

Thanks Uncle Benz and V6Matty, So 140 270 11 61 / 80 is the correct MB part Nr for the conductor plate, and its fitted to the w212 722.6 box. ( and on earlier 722.6 boxes too ! )
That clear's up a lot of the questions I had.
Thanks again.. :)

Bob and John, It was a relief to me to find out that I have the 766.2 trans, as I am a novice here with MB...after doing full change with 722.6 approved fluid......I was sweating for awhile there !!!:confused::confused: But all's well that end's well, and now I am a bit more knowledgeable about the car too !!! So it's a win-win situation for everyone :D:D:D

We are all novices and occasionally make mistakes :D although some past (Malcolm RIP) and present members on here are a wealth of knowledge

Yes Bob, you are right.... there is a wealth of knowledge here on the Forum...and maybe even more important, a willingness to share it. I am sure, covering well worn topics again and again to a continuous stream of "Newies" can be annoying at times, but still you never hear of complaint's, or worse again, refusal's to try and help those of us with problems.
Thanks for that, and Well done.:D:D:D
