Hi - i have an injector going down (misfire etc - sounds like the big ends are going but shown on diagnostic unit to be faulty injector). Ive just bought another one, new, put it in and its slightly different but not really any better.

2 questions if you can PLEASE help anyone:

1. Ive just bolted this new one in -does it need to be setup/paired/adjusted somehow or are they plug n play ?

2. Ive been told by a taxi driver that you rarely need a new injector but can just change a washer (perhaps the copper washer at the bottom end ??) - certainly the washer on the old unit is worn around the centre hole - is this true ?

feel free to phone me 0121 603 9993 or the mobile number below - i prefer this to typing !, cheers, A

mostly sorted - thanks to Colechelle - but MPG way down

Colchelle knew the answer straight away : loud ticking noise under load when having just fitted a new injector = blow-by, in other words the injector isnt seated right. The sound is like cam noise or a hydraulic tappet that's not filling with oil if u know either of those noises, and goes away when you back off the throttle a bit. Solution = remove and clean where the washer presss onto the head, fit new washer and stretch bolt and get the torque right this time. Noise gone.

Only thing is, and Im NOT looking for problems, but I swear the fuel economy has gone to sh@t now ???? I eventually swapped the recon injector (£135+VAT) for a new one (£158+VAT from Bosch agent), and it has the right number 4 in the circle like the others, and it runs fine, but my regular commute is now 5-10 mpg down. For example, from cold, a 15 mile run with first 5 miles in suburban housing areas and last 10 miles at 60mph on dual carriageways, not many stops, v little congestion, and i used to average 38-40mph, this morning with the new injector i got 31.5mph ! - how is that possible with one injector changed ? E270CDI auto 2002

Any ideas guys ?

Andy, the next move is to have the ECU read and the injector number(fuel timings) are correct, thats a lot of mpg down, thats the only thing i can think off the top of my head, glad our phone call helped!!!
