replacing steering rack

Is it a big job replacing my steering rack on my 01 mercedes c220 cdi:???:

Can you tell me how you know your steering rack needs replacing? My steering has developed an annoying squeek everytime you turn the wheel. It is at it's worst in the morning. Looking at other posts it seems to be the steering rack, which if i recall is a big job.

its not the end of the world, i wouldnt do one on the floor but its not hard if you have a proper lift to use, havent done one for i guess a year or two but will check it out and get back to you, as waynec320 says, how do you no its the rack???

The power steering is working while i`m driving but when the car is sitting turning over i can`t turn the wheel i`ve cheaked the pump and there is fluid circulating around the system also i`ve replaced the fan belt that turns the pump at first i thought it was air locked but i bled the system and its still the same i can`t think off any thing that could be wrong apart from the steering rack. There are no leaks around the rack and it makes a little noise when i turn the wheels when reving it.
