Ordered some aftermarket DRL's for my C250 half expecting to send them back after looking at them but these turned out to be pretty good so thought I would share.

They took around 45mins to fit, longest part was deciding how they should operate, when they should come on, dim and switch off etc.

I ended up wiring them in such that they come straight on with the ignition, dimmed slightly when sidelights are on, and off completely when the headlights are on to try and match how the genuine ones work.

Wiring

- 12v Ignition - I tapped into the main 12v feed (Red Cable) that goes into the engine bay fuse box.

- Earth - I used the existing earth point next to the coolant reservoir.

- 12v Sidelight - I used the Green and Black cable that is part of the main connector into the drivers side headlight.

- 12v Headlight - I used the Yellow cable that is part of the main connector into the drivers side headlight.

The kit was supplied by angel-lights-uk

Hope this helps anyone looking to fit these!

They look very smart. How much ?

Total price delivered was £134

Having looked at them, could probably modify the OEM insert with a DRL and wiring harness for £50/£60 but these were so easy to fit and a direct replacement.

my DRL`s stay on all the time whether the headlights are on or not. would they wire them different from a C to an E class?.

Yes there is class and model year differences in how DRLs operate. If the stay on with headlamps they should dim to approx 50%.

I had a 2012 C180 Coupe previously and they were on all the time but 50% dimmer when turning on the headlights.

You can wire these kits the same way. They have two different levels of dimming.

When you say you tapped into the red main cable feeding the fusebox, i hope you are meaning you have broken into the fused side of the ignition circuit and not the unfused, as this can cause any number of nasty things in the case of a fault if you have an unfused line coming off the fuse box. Most serious being an engine bay fire.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for pointing this out for everyone.

Should have mentioned to ensure that the 12v + was fused.

I used a 3 amp fuse between the fuse box feed (red main) and the DRL control box.

The kit advised tapping into an ignition live fuse from the fuse box but this is messy hence choosing to use an inline fuse.

Thanks very much, I'm really pleased with them.

Spent quite a while trying to find some where I was able to keep my fog lights as well.

I see so many cars fitted with the halfrauds ones and they look so bad!
