Hi all.

I’m fairly sure this will have been asked previously but here goes.

I have a 2004 CL500 with an auto boot release, however the boot only opens automatically.

I was curious as to the possibility of retro fitting a powered boot closure set up?

Is this possible or more trouble than it’s worth?

Any advice/experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Kindest regards all.

Everthing is possible if you know how and have the money.

you will need a new rear trim, with the switches, a hydraulic closure pump, wiring and it may need wiring to the boot switch in the drivers door.

Just my tuppence.

Would suggest it is more trouble than it's worth. Unless you like a project and can find all the (working) parts from a breaker and are very handy with the spanners and wiring. Also something else to go wrong, and they do.

And it will need recoding to tell the car it's there and how to use it.

They are rubbish, the hinges wear, it's a bad design. It's like a power folding roof mechanism (hydraulic pump, ram etc) but just for a boot lid.

When they wear, they turn into guillotines and fly downwards at speed.

I wouldn't bother.

That’s great

Thanks everybody for taking the time to reply.

I like the idea of it but I think it’s a pass from me!

Besides I found some bubbling paint on the bottom of the rear wheel arches today!

I've always fancied doing this on the W220 models I have owned, I even bought some 12Vdc linear actuators years ago but did not get the chance to try them out.

You have reminded me about them, and I may well dust off this idea in the future! ;)

It can't be that difficult...

Ah those infamous words "How hard can it be"....
Often heard not far from "What could possibly go wrong" and usually followed by "Watch this".....
