Sam, that panel!!!Didn't realise you worked for NASA . Just changed my mind about getting a newer Merc ,I'd probably put it in the ditch trying to change channels on the A/C. It's just that someone has one that's permanently on and swears it's legal.I'm not convinced.But what do I know?

It's illegal , The same as watching tv to be honest you are very unlikely to get caught . But it would cost you around £50 to allow you to watch while on the move ! due to being cut but the ECU when put in gear.

We have had this in our Q7 .

Thinking about this it is no more than an electronic rear view mirror and it shows no more or no less than that, I am sure that some lorries have such a thing

On Top Gear last season, the Porsche GT2 against the Lambo, the Lambo had a permanent rear view display in the monitor. Also, Fifth gear (someone has to watch it), the new Beamer has side camera's and both are displayed on the monitor.

Question is, can you enable the COMAND APS rear view camera to be shown during forward driving? I have it on the 500 and would be a nice feature to have, albeit an adjustment of the camera upwards may be necessary.

Is it a Star configuration or just not possible?

It cant be done as video on the move cannot be activated, and in other cases they will not.

The extra mirror is not a bad idea though

Thats a shame, rear view camera's are really useful. On the motorhome I had it permanently working, primarily to watch the Seicento on the A-Frame, and the Prius has a really good rear view system as well, just seems in this day and age that it should be standard, the more a driver can see all around them, the safer they would be, at least IMO.

Recording.!? Why would you want to record the muddy front panels of a caravan and a couple of rusty-blue gas bottles..!!?!!

Recording if driving solo, you caravanists have some odd hobbies so I wouldn't put it past you guys to watch your gas bottles and muddy panels while you hold the rest of us up is that why you drive so slow ?
