reverse problem

hi i have a c270 ag 39k with full mb history a couple of times i've had problems
with reverse' select r and it makes noise like your driving through the brakes this sometimes accompanied by juddering . is there an oil level dip stick as i can't find one. i would welcome any coments on this as im a little lost thanks
p s the parking brake is going fully off and its warning light goes out.

No dipstick on later MB's. Diptube at rear of engine with black cover and red locking tab. Dipstick is a workshop tool which can be be bought off ebay (usa seller) for about £26 now. Someone on forum, who lives near you, may have one you can use.

think MB are recommending a autobox fluid change around that mileage on most models, though original advice was that it wasn't required!

will draining the gearbox drain torque converter or is that seperate

To isolate the drive chain, just jack up one rear wheel with the hand brake off and in N on the box, rotate the wheel in both directions, anything wrong there could be heard.

Re the box, the fluid change is around this time but I do not think that it would solve any noises.

No. Later MB's dont have a torque converter drain plug either. If you unscrew the banjo bolt on the side of the converter (this fastens the hydraulic pipe from the oil cooler to the converter in place) and run the engine for a short time this will remove some, but not all, of the converter oil. Important that you change the filter, slides on/off, and fit a new sump joint.
