Good evening
Was wondering if any member had replaced the cable to the reversing camera after connector in the boot lid below trim. The camera occasionally stopped working but left grid on the screen, it didn't like the lid flying up. now its stopped completely. took all the interior carpet out of the boot. no breaks but did notice small kinks in the cable. Is there a way to check if the camera is goosed?, any help appreciated.

the wires snap down by the hinges inside the boot (not on the lid or to the camera) just like the designed them too - and the early aluminum camera gets damp and goes furry inside - you can dry it out, remove some corrosion try and get stuff on the circuit boards - but its a swiss watch weird beard set up inside that doesn't like to come totally out of the housing so you can get at the inside of the lens - if you go mad filling with gunk - the later plastic camera is better and cheaper and u just swap two wires about

where it doesn't have active guidelines, the grid is superimposed on the screen and is not from the camera

the stupid flinging up of the boot when opening is to a) snap the wires b) help the rain and moisture blow up the radio amp, is part of the maintenance programme they build them with

Sorted the reversing camera this morning, the problem is under the trim in the boot roof. Why do Mercedes hard tie the cable in three positions with such abrasive clips which in time will cut through the soft three core and earth braided cable. Which it did.
My repair was cutting the cable at the break and stripping back and tinning six ends and two earths. I then cut four individual small terminal blocks off a strip and joined the two ends of the three core and earth . Wrapped it pvc tape (bundle) and placed behind the upper trim.
This is a poor design, with abrasive restraints without movement consideration. Who ever attended the electrical routing design review should hang there head in shame for letting this through.
All good now on the reversing.

It's hard not to arrive at conclusion that these issues are not built in. It's so simple. Same as wiring probs between polkas and doors. They put so many thru in such a tight space its when u get a drama. Not if! Again I think this is designed that way knowing full well the likely outcome.. I thing wires going into my doors are more than the main harness on my NG!!

I find a break here on a 221 staggering - the cables never move and have zero pull as it opens and closes within the boot lid - either the camera was a bad retrofit or built wrong on the factory floor
