Shop around every year...

If you use gocomparethemeerkatconfused.gone they keep your details so it's relatively easy to get a new quotation to check against your current provider.

Just be aware that most of the comparison sites are owned by insurance companies.
I personally use Money Supermarket as I haven't heard of any tie ins between them and insurers.

Direct Line is not on the usual comparison sites.
Sometimes their quotes are very good, sometimes way out of court.
Worth a try.

I have found LV.com very competitive and have stayed with them for several years now.

Ditto. And if you buy an additional vehicle they'll mirror NCD from another vehicle insured by them.

An old B-Class.
We use Mercedes Insurance (underwritten by Aviva ???) and they have been really competitive the last two years and did not insist on a tracker for my SL.

I have just got my renewal from Tesco.
Its gone up £10 to £284, but getting a quote as a new customer on Money Supemarket its £251

Not a lot of difference, but I'll be speaking to Tesco before the new policy is activated and if its not reduced, I'll cancel and apply as a new customer.

There seems to be no rythem or consistency with insurance companies. I have just renewed with Tesco and I have paid £261 as opposed to £273 last year, Weird !! o_O:confused::) I think they just often try it on to see what they can get away with

Have you ever had a direct quote from Aviva? I did a few years ago and the Aviva quote was half the Mercedes Insurance quote.

Aviva insurance this year on the SL for myself and my wife is £187 with full NCB.

Never knew some insisted on trackers

Most of the insurance companies I tried when the car was new (considering the list price plus 10k in add-ons) insisted on trackers including 2 Mercedes insurance specialists that sponsor the forums. What I got through MB was about half of the others and no tracker needed.

Thanks ....Will check next time around..... what we each pay is irrelevant considering, age, ncb, annual mileage, post code, garaging, previous claims, etc etc however - I shop around and for 2 years running on my 2017 SL, MB have been cheapest and not much more than my wife's B class and beats anything on the comparison sites and what the agents on the forums offering "better deals" for MB owners can do.

Many thanks for all the replies I’ll be researching it’s the first time in a while that a renewal has been so far out apart from last year when I changed my hilux for an identical model 2 years newer and the insurer brightside wanted double apparently because I hadn’t had the vehicle 3 months work that one out!

Car / Liability insurance here in Ireland is a dirty word presently..it's gotten so bad, that it even influenced the recent local elections due to lack of reform in the industry.....and with a General Election looming on the horizon, the Government are now starting to wake up to what's happening. But it will be too late for many SME's who have closed their doors due to inability to pay the rapacious insurance costs. So forgive me a private moment while I have a quiet cry when I hear the price's mentioned here.....Last year for the Eclass W212, it was €570, last week new policy was €613.....and the really sad part???? I was relieved that it had not gone up by more....:(:(:(:(

Have you got 2 or 3 cars in the household?

The multicar policies (Admiral and the like) can make a huge difference to how much you pay in total.

Like in my case, the three of us got all our cars insured for less than insuring my (mew driver) daughter on her own!

They will make part-year adjustments if the renewal dates don't line-up.

Something I noticed this time around if it hasn't been mentioned already....

I noticed a drastic difference in quotes for. Policies with start of tomorrow and 30 days time, with 30 days time being cheaper. Kind of like flights I guess.

(sorry I'm on the move so can't read whole thread)

Any policy starting within a few days has a premium added, believe it’s because you’re a higher risk as you’re not organised

As you get from a couple of weeks to a months notice from your existing provider you should have amble time to get some quotes.
