Rock Hard!

We have a 91 w124 6 door limo built by Mercedes. The rear suspension is rock hard we are sure Viagra is not to blame! It has the self leveling system the same as estste cars. Any ideas anyone?

Bolide is a font of knowledge on the W124 estates so I'm sure he should be able to help. Do you have any pictures of the car you can post up, I haven't seen one since the mid 80's when a taxi firm in Carlisle had 2 black ones.

Sounds like it may need new suspension spheres. Your local Mercedes specialist will be able to help. At a pinch a Citroen specialist will do as the system will be very familiar to them. I wouldn't take it to an ordinary garage because they won't understand it and are likely to start talking rubbish

Spheres are about £80 each and there are two of them

Is the car sitting at the right height at the back?. If the levelling lever attached to the anti roll bar is wrongly adjusted the back wheels can sit up and it will feel rock hard. Worth checking to see if its even connected!. If someones been having trouble with a leak at the shocks they might have been fiddling to try and cure the leak!.
