as i was cleaning the boot of my car,to my horror,i realised that either a mouse or rat had been in there.

i found a shredded crisps bag, shredded chewing gum wrapper.

to my horror, i also found that the offending rodent had found the toolkit
which is stored under the boot floor mat next to the jack.
it had shredded/eaten some of the cloth toolkit wrapper.

my questions are-

anybody experience this one before?

how did it get in as the boot opens at leat 2 foot above ground level?

has it crept up from underneath the car and into the boot?

what should i do next?(?rat poison in boot)

is the cloth tool storage wrapper available?if so, where from?

LOL

The little bugger has probably made a nest inside the foam of one of your seats.

Best way to kill him is to get four big overweight passengers in your car and homefully one of the will do the deed.

Seriously though, do you park in exactly the same place everyday, perhaps a garage or somewhere? Coz the little rodent *must* be getting in and out your car at will because surely there cant be enough crumbs in your car for him to live off. I suspect it is a house mouse as they are so small they can squeeze through anything. The two foot thing may not be an issue, he could simply be climbing up a wheel, though your engine bay and into your cabin and on into your boot through cable or vent ducting.

You dont want to poison the mouse as it will curl up and die somewhere where you cant find it...you'll just know its there by the smell. :x

Best thing is to buy a humane trap - one that just catches him without killing him.

Rodents can be tricky to track down, I once had one in my house and for months I could not figure out how he was getting in. A guest finally discovered when he went for a slash. Apparently, just as he walked into the bathroom he spotted something in the toilet bowl, it leapt out and legged it out of the room. Turns out that he was gaining entry to the house from the outside soil pipe and through the U-bend in the toilet. YUK!

Rodents.

I've had some bad experiences on a farm with 'humane' traps - Once had a cornered rat go for me. I have found that the largest of the 'little nipper' traditional - style mousetraps works great - it's a quick death looking at what's left on the trap. and ou don;t have to contend with a live dangerous, disease carrying rodent.

spike,

you were correct in your diagnosis-the bugger had indeed made a nest in the foam of the rear seat back rest!!-fortunately it did not burrow all the way through to the cloth of the seat.the electrics and vacuum lines look intact as well.

did not catch anything in the trap so far.

but have stopped keeping any kind of food in the car .

While repairing the rear windscreen skoosher I found a mouse nest in beside the fluid bottle, constructed out of what appeared to be the remains of somebodies secret porn collection.

Armed with my biggest beekeeping glove, I probed around to find that the nest was uninhabited. I can only surmise that the poor creature had woken when the car was moving and exited through the normal way only to find himself rolling down the M9.

(Sorry to revive an old thread but there doesn't seem to much on this subject)

Mice

A tip I was given by a friend whois the local RatCatcher for the council isdon't put Cheese in the trap the mice prefer Chocolate. I had what I thought was a mouse in the house a few months ago and tried without sucses to catch it, after beint told about the chocolate, - caught himthe next day and for several days after, it was'nt one mouse but a ****** family.

Tip; use Chocolate buttons, on a Little Nipper trap and watch your fingers.

Had one in my van this winter used a trap baited with a bit of Twix chocolate and caught him but it took a week

I find humane traps pretty useless tbh

I currently have a "ring of steel" of bait boxes with poison in around the outside of the house as its a real problem this year after a few mild winters

It's a good way to get ride of all the Quality Street flavours that nobody likes.

The mice that come into the house don't really bother me. There is one that comes into the bedroom most nights and it sometimes wakes me when it's inside one of the numerous crisp packets that litter the floor. I'm sure it was in the bed with me one night.

There is another one (maybe it's the same one) that scrambles around in the wall somewhere. If I bang the wall it goes quite for about five minutes...a bit like hiting the snooze on the alarm.

We also have a load of bats in the loft and they sometimes get into the house. Do you think they would like Quality Street?

Bats Wildlife

easy way to get rid of your bats Turnipsock, get some Moth balls 1/2 a pound should be enough and scatter them around the loft, within a few days Bats gone, apparently also works for Squirrels too.

That might be worth a try. I have some crystals for keeping the wax moths of my combs, but that's in an different wing of the house, miles from the wing with the bats. I think they are the same stuff as what gets used in moth balls.

My house is begining to sound like it is overun with pests.

Bats are protected of course...

...hence the problem of getting rid of them. Maybe if I move my beekeeping operation to the batwing, they will just move on.

Had to be a doom merchant, but a mouse ate through a wire in the attic of my dad's house, resulting fire took the whole house...! Could happen to a car easily too.

Kill 'em dead..! I find that the baited poison "rentokil" traps work a treat, and believe me if you need to track the dead bodies down by a bad smell it sure beats the smell of burning house, furniture, record collections, insurance certificates etc...!!!

Cheers!

Hi Tom,
Des bit the dust for sure, I wouldn't recommend the method though...!!

Some of the my kid's songs make me want to relive the event, smaller scale though.

On Friday night, I had some popcorn (home cooked) and left the bowl on the floor. I was away Saturday night. This morning (Monday) I picked up my right boot to find it was full of all the left over bits of popcorn.

It's lucky I watched all those Ray Mears programs over the xmas break and didn't automatically put on my boot. I guess the mouse must have been planning on moving into my right boot.
