Just got my wife's 1999 slk back on the road but the roof will not open ,if i push the red button inside you can hear the pump run and i take it doing its locking procedure if i pull it back to open nothing happens but if i flick the button once or twice the windows go down but that's all ,i have checked the wiring from a video on you tube but not sure which should have 12 volts and when any ideas would be greatly appreciated as i am now pulling my hair out .lol Thanks.

How long has it been off the road ?
Is the cars battery ok ? Are you trying the roof with the engine running ?
Has the pump reservoir got oil in it ?
Doesn't the pump sit in the boot area and can get exposed to water in this car ?
Is there a manual opening sequence that will allow you to manoeuvre the roof and lube everything that moves ?
Can you get a fault code reader on a car that old ?

We had a similar experience on our W reg car. It was the release cable inside the top left hand side of the roof. Tightened it up slightly and all was working again.
When this first started having opening issues, I pushed upwards as the roof was trying to open, which helped. The cable wasn't quite opening the release far enoug, but by pushing it up, it released which told me, a cheap fix :D

I will have a go with that, the micro switch wires under the bonnet does any one which should have 12volts when the roof is shut.

Smart + others :)
The boots on the micro switches stick, holding the switch stuck in. Remove the boot.
