The roof can be closed manually and locked with the key provided in the tool kit

In the boot on the n/s,remove the panel, undo the 5mm allen brass screw a couple of turns, next to that theres a round pull and turn knob, on the o/s theres a small cut out in the trim, there your find the other valve, pull and turn, now you can put the pull straps in the tool kit around the hinges on the rear cover panel, lift this back as you pull, this will lift the panel up and you can now fold the roof away, push the valves back into the locked state and try the roof, if that dont work, on top of the screen theres a mico switch that sticks, o/s above the screen!! try flicking that and re-try!!!

Is this the same procedure/info for the W208 (1999 CLK230K Cab)
If so, I'll store it away on file should I ever need it.
Any info on this appreciated.

Thanks for the confirmation.
As the thread title is a little generic (Roof stuck half way!) would it be worth adding the W208 procedure also?

Summer is here...... It's all about location ;)

Look forward to the write up. I'm sure it'll prove handy in the longer term.
Thanks for the quick responses.

Roof cover panel issue

Cole,

Can you help me with an issue I have with my roof?

I think I have narrowed it down to the hydraulic support rams on the roof cover panel.

What happens is the roof cycles through the folding away or putting back up sequence as normal but stops at the point where the panel is supposed to be held up and the hood does it's various movements. What happens is the panel starts to drop and eventually fouls the hood during the sequence which stops everything and needs manual intervention. I think the rams are failing when the pneumatics stop as when the cover panel is held manually and released when the cycle is at the appropriate stage it all goes smoothly.

So my question is does it sound feasible that replacing the support rams will solve the problem and if so are there aftermarket or non OEM replacements available or do I need MB parts and if so what are the part numbers???

Must say i have never seen the fault you have, it do sound like the rams are letting the pressure go, it could also be a valve block fault, i would have thought you would have been losing fuild if the rams were leaking that bad.........

Thanks for the quick response. I'll look for fluid at the rams. The ones on the boot are shot and the lid slams shut if I'm not paying attention which is what made me think of this as a potential cause of my roof problem.

Any idea of part numbers etc?

Hope that this is the most relevant place to post having searched the site.

As someone who has no technical knowledge whatsoever I tend to panic at the slightest hiccup.

This morning my 1999 280 SL hood opening paused for what seemed like forever but was probably 15 seconds or so at the point where the rear panel rises up to swallow up the folding hood.

First time it has ever had a delay like that, is this likely to be a sign of problems to come and if so what?

Are these roofs on the SL easy to manually complete the operation? Presumably I would actually want to reverse and put it back up rather than risk it being stuck in the down position with the weather we have been having.

Thanks

Rob
