=THanks to all those who replied to my angst regarding C class. 99% to sign this week.
Was also considering Rover 75, say a 6 month old one for 10k with all the toys.
WAs this a silly concept???
believe it or not, was also thinking about a megane CC...because I am coming out of a 206cc...

Hehe...i know its a personal choice, but could somebody give me some "choice" words on WHY getting a C class would be so much better than these cars???!!!

I promise to leave you all alone after this...sorry to be so indecisive but you guys are like pros!

I LIKE the 75 and the CC. I LOVE having a Mercedes.

I stand by Rover who transported me through Mini / Maestro / Montego days and were it not for the efficiency of German cars would still consider buying one. But if I like the comfort and style of a 75 then I can get more of it in a C.

The CC is a nice car to look at - especially in Black, but the things is can do reasonably, the SLK can do extremely well and has the Merc mentality underpinning it. My wife looked at the CC, ordered an SLK.

A look at residual values should help to convince you of not the financial arguement but the desireability factor. Then there is the depreciation benefit.

I vote for the C or an SLK.

The other 2 are fine but normal cars. A merc is a different proposition. A cut above as it were. You can't really compare them. Admittedly the gulf isn't as wide as it once was, but there is still a fundamental difference in the feel of the car and consequently, how it makes you feel.

I have a CLK and my wife has a new 2.0 Megane CC
The Megane is a superb second car but with the roof down you do get a lot of 'scuttle' and whilst I have done 110 mph in it it does not handle very well. I would go for the Merc everytime. That said you should get a good deal on CC as the rain has come !

Oh i forgot to say... My rover was stolen

It turns out that if you get a screw driver and pop out the front passanger side fog you can put your arm into the engine bay and pull off the cable that connects the battery... the car thinks its been in a crash and unlocks the doors, disables the alarm and turns off the imobiliser... then just open the door and jump start the car...

Rover went bust for a reason!

it isnt. it will break down for real after a 100yards. just ring for an ambulance. they will drop you near home if you demand to be taken to a hospital near your home. it is absolutly amazing what some scratters in this world will do to save taxi fares when other people are dying as a drink has commandeered a ambulance for a free ride home.

i know of a guy who orders a take away delivery, then turns up the the tke away half cut, and says where are you taking that? you can take me too. gets home for a £1. and has his lunch/dinner/supper/breakfast/elevenses all in one go.
