My 1994 124 has just had major work (don't ask) and is revving around 3,000 at 110 kmh ... does this sound too high?

Thanks

Sounds high for 60++ mph, have you tried to count the gear changes ??? I think it stops in 3rd and doesnt go to 4th gear.

20 MPH per 1000 was the norm back then I think, is it the 4 or 5 speed box

Think its a 4 speed on a 1994. on the selector it should be 2 3 D N R P on 4 speed and 5 speed 2 3 4 D N R P

The 5 speed was an option then, I think ir was part vacuum operated and it is common to leave these pipes off when the engine has been repaired

Thanks

Thanks ... that makes me feel better. The car was in the garage for nearly 4 months (!) and I'd forgotten if it should have revved that high.

It is the 4-speed and I've been driving a six-cylinder while it was off the road.

Thanks again. I wish I'd found this forum before I bought my 1994 with its "biodegradable electric loom." It helps to know I'm not the only one to have had problems with it!

110 kph is 68.3 mph. My M111 E200 pulled 3400 rpm at 70mph. The 220 has slightly taller gearing. So yours seems bang on I'd say. I don't think the 5-speed auto was an option on 4-cylinder cars.

Yes you are correct with that, I remember now only with the 24 valve engine.

Thank you
