i cant belive your car wont touch 140 Stu, mind did but took a while, take the weight and extra cc, it should do it!! seen many 220cdi pass that speed!!

(It has, but was marginally downhill so I don't count it).

I suspect the C200 is probably quicker than the E220. These 211s are really heavy and the MPG from 203 to 211 is noticably worse.

Mine now has had a diet of millers, and over 50k now so maybe should go somewhere and find out :D

I will save the yeeeehaaaaaaaaa until the ton fifty though :cool:

Your car will probably be geared for 160-170mph vmax.

In my old 4x4 (x5 4.4i) the 6th gear was 30mph/1000rpm and 60mph was only 2k rpm, 90 3krpm. 6krpm (redline) therefore 180mph. From memory a Porsche Cayenne S I drove was exactly the same ratios.

Your car sounds slightly shorter geared, but now by much (5k = 150mph in the X5) but more realistically so as peak torque will be reached at a lower, more road friendly speed that the BMWs.


Yes it was like that quite lively to 125 mph and then it rolled off a bit

Lively is a bit of an understatement, it flies when you give it some boot. Its a yeeeeeeeeehhaaaaaaaaa car ;)

Thats was my old one the 129 SL the one that I took you out in is very low geared at 70 its 2.2 RPM when doing 150 MPH in Germany I did not notice the RPM I was too busy taking a photo got one here

The 230 is probably geared for 180-200mph then. @ 130mph you not even hitting 4rpm. Its at least 35mph/1000rpm (meaning its geared like my diesel) but has an extra 2krpm to play with, (never mind double the BHP and nearly 1/3rd more peak torque).
